Record

On a personal note my blog had a record day yesterday by getting over 300 hits. In addition the blog generated almost 1 cent in ad revenue. I am pretty sure most of those people just clicked the Next Blog link, but they still count. I even got hits from Sudan, North Korea, and Jordan. Apparently terrorists really like those new Oregon Football uniforms.

Anyway tomorrow will be a special blog entry. It will either be about the NBA Draft, The Democratic debate where the word Iraq was said zero times, or about Justin's latest attempt to break up with his girlfriend. For an albino she is quite clingy.

And for you people wandering what I have been doing this summer??? Today I investigated if cream cheese floats. Sadly it sinks like poor people on the Titanic.

The NBA Draft

The NBA Draft is just around the corner and this means that we will be hearing the word upside and wingspan about 4,000 times in the next two days. In case people don't want to listen to Jay Bilas describe how well the prospects can guard the chair he sits in, I am offering my own NBA draft analysis right here in the BaldingReport.

White guy most likely to be selected way to high: Spencer Hawes. Why any team would draft Hawes is beyond me. He can barely jump over quarter and he rebounds worse than an Oregon post player. He is Chris Mihm reincarnated.

College senior who everyone thinks will contribute right away yet will do nothing: Tie between Al Thornton and Acie Law. Thornton is already 24 meaning he played in college this past season despite being 2 years older than Lebron James. He is like the 6 foot tall kid in 4th grade who everyone thinks is good until everyone grows as tall as him. Then everyone realized, man that kid sucked.

Law on the other hand is being billed as a "great leader" who can step in and run a team right away. Joey Harrington was also billed as a great leader and his career turned out great.

Sleeper pick: Mike Conley
In the NBA there are only two positions that actually impact how good your team is PG and Center. Denver tried to put the best SG and the best SF together and the team didnt do anything. However the team with the best Center (Spurs) and the team with the best PG (Suns) were the two best teams in the league. Plus the most successful PG's in the NBA (Parker, Nash, Kidd, Deron Williams, Chris Paul) are all pass first PG's like Conley.

Since there are no impact Centers outside of Oden, Conley is the only other person in this draft who will dramatically improve the team he gets drafted on.

Biggest bust: Kevin Durant
Duran will undoubtedly be a 25 point scorer for the Sonics, but he will do nothing to improve the win loss record of the team. Durant is a cross between T-Mac and Carmelo and neither of those two players have gotten out of the first round of the playoffs. Given the enormous expectations placed up Durant and the inability of SF's to make a meaningful impact in todays game Durant will end up the bust of this draft.

The Fight of our lives

Quick thoughts for today:

1) Earlier this morning I lost my 134th straight golf match against my dad. Considering his shoe size has gone up 2 sizes over the past year and his head is now the size of a watermelon, I have to assume that he is using performance enhancers.

2) Seeing as I get sunburned all the time now, I’ll take the moon over the sun any day of the week.

3) My new IPOD is already glitchy after a week of use. I am going to laugh at anyone who buys that new IPHONE and has to send it back within the first month of owning it.

4) So far I have generated almost 1 cent of ad revenue from this blog. Unfortunately I don't get paid until i reach $100. If anyone wants to spend like 4 hours clicking on the ads at the bottom of the page I will give them like 50% of the money.

5) Oregon basketball picked up a transfer from LSU today. Ben Voogd is transferring from LSU to Oregon after averaging an astounding 1.4 ppg. On one end I am actually excited because Voogd is a local kid from Florence who I figure will likely overachieve seeing as he is playing near his home. However he averaged one fucking point per game and Oregon apparently chose to offer him a scholarship over Michael Harthun. Sometime I wonder if Ernie Kent likes to add as much degree of difficulty to his job as possible. First a 5'6 PG and now a guy who averaged 1 point for the worst team in the SEC.

Are you ready for some football??

I was scanning through the newspaper last week when I found out that the Atlanta Braves had selected Dennis Dixon in the 5th round of the MLB Draft. Ironically Dixon was drafted higher than any Oregon State player, and OSU is in the College World Series whereas Dixon is still shining his Las Vegas Bowl MVP award. Go figure

This however got me thinking about the 2007-08 College Football Season. Oregon tanked last year but I feel they have the pieces in place this year to make a run at the conference crown.

There are several key things that are necessary for Oregon to have a great football team and all those things are in place this season.

1) Oregon and Senior Quarterbacks. In the Mike Bellotti era every team he that played a senior QB has at once point in the season been ranked in the top ten (1996 Tony Graziani, 1998 Akili Smith, 2001 Joey Harrington, 2003 Jason Fife: ranked top 10 after beating Michigan, 2005 Kellen Clemens). This season Oregon's two primary QB's will both be seniors thus guaranteeing the team will at some point be in the top 10.

2) The every other year phenomenon- In the Bellotti era it seems that every other year the team competes for a BCS bid. 1995-Cotton Bowl, 1998- Team is destroying everybody and takes #4 UCLA to OT before Rueban Droughns get hurt, 2000 and 2001 Team is awesome, 2003 Team goes to Sun Bowl, 2005 team goes 10-1. Every year Oregon falls below expectations the program has responded with a very solid year. I expect 2007 to be no different.

3) The schedule- Last year Oregon had one of the toughest conferences schedules in the country. Oregon played @USC, @Cal @OSU @ASU (the top 4 teams in the conference) as well as @WSU. This upcoming year Oregon gets those 5 teams at home.

4) Losing nobody of importance- Even though Oregon lost a few seniors, almost all of them were overrated southern California players who didn't do shit except for Blair Phillips. Jordan Kent, Dante Rosario, Matt Toeinia, and JD Nelson were all starters but they were not playmakers. College Football is about one thing, playmakers, and the only playmaker Oregon is losing from last year is Blair Phillips.

5) New offensive coordinator- Although Gary Crowton came in with a lot of hype (sound familiar for Oregon athletics), it was pretty obvious that last year he assumed he was calling plays for a video game and not a real football game. Last year Oregon only ran three plays last year: WR Screen, Zone read where QB always hands off, QB scramble off a broken pass play. The hiring of Chip Kelly can only improve the offense and hopefully will keep our coaches from gameplanning on the XBOX

For all of these reasons I guarantee a 9 win season for Oregon Football and am willing to challenge any reader in a college football pick em contest. History will repeat itself again this season and Oregon football will have a season worthy of a Joe Giansante Highlight DVD.

I also have BREAKING NEWS to report here on the BaldingReport. I have confirmed through multiple sources that Oregon President Dave Fhronmayer has signed off on an agreement to bring baseball back to the UofO. This will come at the expense of the wrestling program. Expect the announcement to come in the next few days. Playball!

Mysterious Blogger

Yesterday I was sorting through my fan mail and one letter from an anonymous fan caught my eye. Anonymous wrote: "is your eventual fame going to change you, and how can we learn more about you?". This is an excellent question for two reasons.

1) It is good to know that everyone agrees my fame is inevitable.
2) I often wonder how to further inform readers on my life.

My readers often assume that as a hot-shot Hollywood blogger I lead an elitist lifestyle. This is simply not true. I would ask my current roommate Justin Samudio to back me up on this but he has been drunk about 85% of the time we live together so he clearly is not in a position to comment. I would also ask my former roommate of 4 years Kevin Sully to weigh in on this issue, but his opinion is not valued around here since he is a confidant of enemy of the blog Daniel Rubenstein.

Since I can not bring credible factual testimony to back up my claims that I lead a non-elitist lifestyle, I have been provided with a digital camera by one of my sponsors (JDB inc.) in order to document my life. Above is a picture I snapped of my workstation that contains clues as to my normal lifestyle.

Things to notice in the picture
1) I prefer a blue collar ice cream flavor like vanilla as opposed to some fancy well off flavor like chocolate
2) I do not have any leatherbound books nor is my desk made from rich Mahogany
3) I chew Dentyne Ice
4) I am a fan of Star Wars
5) I wear contacts/glasses
6) I have a glass with the logo of an accounting firm

As the picture shows, I am actually much closer to being a nerd than I am to being an elitist blogger. Hopefully this picture clears up any misconceptions people may have about me and allows me to keep my street cred in the blogosphere.

By the way, these ads at the bottom of the screen actually work so everytime you click on them I get money. I think i get 1/50th of a cent for each click so go crazy.

A Long Time coming

I know it has been awhile since I updated the BR, but I have been busy underachieving in school. It did give me some satisfaction however when I found out that only 373 other students out of roughly 4500 graduating seniors were double majors like me. Of course my double major was completely accidental and the result of me failing to graduate in 4 years, but who is counting.

Anyway in this post I would like to thank all the people people who hindered my progress and forced me to come back for a 5th year.

1st person to thank- William H. Baugh. Baugh is a political science teacher who first coined the term "protracted affair" and he made me lose all faith in the educational process. Baugh made us buy his book for roughly $150 insisting that it was necessary for his course, and then we didn't end up reading it once. He also managed to skip the first day of class due to the snow (he said he lived to far up in the Coburg Hills) while docking points from students who failed to show up. Plus he told the class the best way to kill yourself was with a plastic bag because we wouldn't feel anything. Classy guy

2nd person to thank- All my group mates who sucked. Several classes in the college of business require group projects, however the groups are decided at random. All the people who were ever in my groups blew. I even got assigned a girl who could not read.

3rd person to thank- Fellow students for stealing my idea. In my BA352 class I came up with the idea that the University should operate a charter bus during Finals week that would take students up to the Portland Airport. Not only did I propose this idea, but I also did hundreds of hours of related research that supported the feasibility of such an idea. I was told however by one of my professors that the idea was "not feasible" and so I never pursued it. However earlier this year I read this article and discovered that two students who were in my BA352 class had stolen my idea. It pains me to think that I could be a successful bus operator right now if I had been allowed to follow my dream.

4th person to thank- The creators of NCAA Football video games.

5th person to thank- Kevin Sully. Kevin came to Eugene this past weekend during deadweek and naturally wanted to hang out with me and Samudio since we know where all the big parties are. However his timing was horrible as he came the weekend before finals. Despite his desperate urging, I resisted the urge to hang out with him and concentrated on my finals. Samudio on the other hand is mentally weak and could not resist the urge of hanging out with this mysterious L.A hearthrob. He paid the price for it later by getting a 53 on his final the following Monday.

It is no coincidence that Kevin came the week before finals as he clearly is intimidated by my assault on all his academic records. He clearly realized that a Political Science and Accounting degree > a journalism and Political Science degree. Shame on him for failing to realize that records are meant to be broken.

Todays Thoughts

1) I’m thinking about getting a horse. Great gas mileage (although the grain mileage is iffy at best) and once you’re done with it, you’ve got about ten days worth of food. Or you can make a lot of glue.

2) If I had to pick between a sloth and a spider, I’d take the sloth. Harder to forget where you left it. Plus its easier to run away from if it ever attacked you.

Track and Field

Today friend of the blog Kevin Sully arrives in Eugene. Kevin ventured north to Eugene in order to attend the Prefontaine Classic, the most prestigious track meet in North America. Kevin is a big fan of track and field, and in his prime he managed to post times that would beat even the best high school girl.

I myself however am not a fan of track and field, and I get disgusted when I hear people talk about how great the sport is.

The problem with Track and Field is that all the competitors in it are failures at other sports. In America if young people are good athletes they play either football or basketball, not track. The athletes that end up in track are the kids who get cut from those two sports. The kids who cant catch, throw, shoot, block, or remember the plays are the kids that end up running track. No young athlete in America grows up wanting to run track. They grow up wanting to play football or basketball and are forced to participate in track when they fail at the sports they grow up loving.

The perfect example of this phenomenon is the X-man Xavier Carter who won the 100, 200, and 400 meters at the last NCAA championship, yet he couldn't get on the football field for the LSU football team. He only turned to track after his failure on the football field. How am I supposed to take track seriously when it only attracts athletes who turn to it after failing at other sports.

Watching a running events can be fun, but fun in the same way that watching a JV basketball game is fun.

Big Time

Today we spell redemption: T-H-E B-A-L-D-I-N-G-R-E-P-O-R-T.

Today I was googling things and I happened to Google the following phrase "Scooter Libbey, Romney". I was curious to find out if presidential hopeful Mitt Romney had clarified his views on the President potentially pardoning Libbey. I googled the phrase and clicked on the second link that Google provided. I started reading and realized how familiar the words were. Then I realized that I was reading my own blog.

Apparently
Google has such high respect for the BaldingReport that they decided to put it as the #2 link for everyone that google's the phrase "Scooter Libbey, Romney". Here are the results of such a google.

Not only am I frontpage news for anyone who googles two of the most popular names in todays news cycle, but other organizations besides Google are catching wind of the BaldingReport.

Time.com puts my blog 5th with regards to the Republican Debate.

Not only am I getting publicity on such websites as Time, but I also manged to finally score some points on the website where me and Dan Rubenstein are competing. The last time I checked on my popularity I was distraught when I found out my influence was rated 0. Well I checked again today and found out that I now am now rated a 1. This puts me only 266 points behind popcornpalace.com

Locked In

Today was a big day for me for two reasons.

1) Today at the UO Bookstore Ernie Kent was signing autographs. I got Ernie Kent to autograph my Oregon Basketball Highlight DVD with the following inscription "Michael, way to overcome your adversity...P.S. thanks for the coaching tips -Ernie Kent".

2) Not only was Ernie Kent at the bookstore autographing DVD's but so was Joe Giansante. Giansante is the primary TV guy for all duck sports and he is the guy I hate more than anyone in the world. I hate Giansante because of how he defends the Oregon Athletic Department no matter what. Instead of using his position to give the viewers objective sports analysis, he instead acts like the Sean Hannity of Oregon Sports. His call of the Oregon-Oklahoma onside kick is just the tip of the iceberg.

Giansante is one of the primary reasons I started this blog. His homerism is so severe that I felt the people needed a way to see through his blubbery goo of deception with regards to Oregon sports. People pay a lot of money to see their team and I feel that those people deserve to know the truth about Oregon sports.

A few days ago I was trying to come up with a theme for my blog and I couldn't come up with anything that seemed appropriate. The best word I could come up with to describe my blog was "voracious". However as I was standing next to the oval shaped Giansante today, I realized that I want my blog to be against whatever he stands for. I want him to be the anti-Christ for whatever I preach. I may not be able to define what I stand for, but i know its opposite of whatever he stands for.

3 Blind Mice

Tonight I continue my debate coverage as I tackle the Republican debate. The first thing to note about this debate is that there are 10 people participating, so hopefully we see some fiery and outrageous exchanges. Plus only 3 of the ten (Romney, McCain, Giuliani) have any chance of getting the nomination, so the other 7 candidates could go for broke tonight. It also should be noted that Wolf Blitzer is moderating his second debate in three days so we could see CNN go to the hot moderator early in the debate.

4:00- Romney, Guliani, and McCain are all positioned right next to each other in the middle of the stage. Of course this is a coincidence.

4:02- The production of these debates is horrible as a buzzer goes off right during the McCain's introduction. This is worse than game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

4:04- Romney says "non-sequitor" and "null set" during the first 10 seconds of his first answer.

4:06- First shocking statement of the evening as Guiliani says it was absolutely the right decision to invade Iraq. If he wins the nomination he will be seeing that statement a lot come next summer.

4:13- Its hilarious watching the Republicans try to defend the Iraq War. Its like when parents trap a 9 year old in a lie and the kid keeps trying to defend the lie to the end.

4:19- The candidates are debating what weapon system is best suited for destroying Iran's nuclear weapons program. I personally prefer a cellulose encased smart bomb deployed from an F-18.

4:24- Guiliani gives a solid answer by saying the new immigration law is a typical Washington law that is too full of comprises to actually do anything.

4:27- McCain is an interesting guy in the republican race because he is on an island in that he supports the surge and that he supports the immigration reform law that just passed. He suffers in a debate format because everyone lines up against him.

4:32- Duncan Hunter says the fence he proposes on the border would be so big that "anyone who got across it should be signed up for the Olympics" The problem is that under his law the people who could jump the fence would be competing for Mexico.

4:41-The candidates are actually talking about the validity of evolution. This has to be a new low for a debate.

4:48- The candidates are now talking about the validity of global warming. Its hilarious seeing the candidates accept the science of global warming but reject the science of evolution.

4:49- McCain makes a great point about how Navy ships have sailed around the world for 60 years on nuclear power without an accident. Nuclear power seems to be the answer that no one is talking about.

4:54- Ron Paul starts talking about the US overthrowing the Iranian government in 1953. Its amazing how he gets applause every time he speaks yet is considered a cook by the media.

5:00- Sam Brownback says Clinton has not been a good ex-president because he hasn't been active in oversees tragedies like George HW Bush. Brownback might need to go back and look at those Tsunami and Katrina fund raising commercials again.

5:05- Romney says Scooter Libbey should be pardoned because his crime "wasn't the underlying crime of the investigation". So under Romney's logic the police shouldn't prosecute crimes they uncover from other investigations.

5:15- Halftime is over and the hot moderator returns to the debate. She looks better than last night. On Que CNN opens with someone who has family in Iraq, who wonders what the candidates will do about Iraq.

5:17- McCain makes a bold move and stands up out of his seat to address the women who asks the question. The thing about McCain is that he is the only candidate who actually seems genuine about his positions.

5:29- the moderator asks a question from some blogger. CNN shows the question on the screen and the signature on the question is "blogger".

5:33- Ron Paul says the most pressing moral issue in America today is "the acceptance of pre-emptive war". I think the lack of success of the last two pre-emptive wars has shut down this idea for the most part.

5:39-Romney is asked how he can support English as a National language while running ads in Spanish. Romney is flustered. This could be the defining moment of the debate. He is viewed as a flip-flopper and the idea that he wants English as the national language while running ads in Spanish will just enforce that idea.

5:47- Tancredo says bi-lingual countries do not work. China and India might disagree with him

5:50- Blitzer offers up the biggest softball question of the night in asking Giuliani "what is an American". Why not ask Giuliani what he was doing on 9/11.

6:00- The debate ends anti-climatically as McCain states his credentials. Overall I have to say that this debate sucked for two reasons 1) None of the candidates went after each other and 2) They didn't talk about anything with any substance. At times I felt like I was watching a sermon on life values as opposed to a presidential debate.

Anyway i am tired and need to go watch my new Oregon Basketball Highlight DVD.

Live at the Debate

In New Hampshire today was the third democratic debate of the year. Considering there is 0% chance that a Republican can win the presidency in 2008, the next president was on stage today. All 8 of the major candidates were there today, although only Obama, Clinton, and Edwards have realistic shots at the White House (Gore also has a realistic shot if he enters the race).

As an accredited member of the blogosphere I paid special attention to the debate and wrote down the relevant aspects of it for my loyal readers.

4:00- Why is the debate in New Hampshire?? The state has 4 electoral votes, the same as Hawaii. The stupidest thing in American politics is how New Hampshire and Iowa basically get to pick the presidents. Last year John Kerry won Iowa and was set for the rest of the campaign. Dean lost Iowa and was done. The US needs a national primary so farmers and Bostonians escaping from high taxes dont get to decide who the president is.

401-Mike Gravel says in the introduction "I am Mike Gravel and i am running for president FOR REAL" Sadly no one actually believes him.

4:08- its almost comical how fast Blitzer cut off Kucinich when he started talking about rainbow coalitions.
4:09- Blitzer is sticking to the script so far. Dodd, Richardson, and Gravel have had no face time where as Obama and Clinton have both had two questions.
4:13- Obama calls Edwards out for being "4 and a half years to late" on the Iraq War. As Bill Raftery would say "dagger early"
4:15- Clinton calls it "Bush's war" seemingly forgetting she voted for it and wont call her vote a mistake.
4:16- 16 minutes in and nothing from the minority candidates outside of Kucinich
4:19- Gravel finally ends his shut out.
4:25- Clinton is asked if she regrets not reading the National Intelligence Estimate. Why not ask her if she is happy her husband is a adulterer. Uncomfortable moment.
4:30- Obama attacks the debate question and Clinton bandwagons on his response. Obama is like Shaq in his prime right now. He is carrying everyone in the debate.
4:40- Good sparring session between Obama and Edwards with Clinton look like a lost child in the middle. Kucinich than trumps them all as he reminds everyone that both Obama and Edwards want the HMO's to stay in charge of running the health care system. Why Kucinich gets no national pub is beyond me.
4:51- Gravel is beginning to slur his words. I say the over under on his blood aclohol is .06
4:52- Ricahrdson answers every question the exact same way "As govenor of New Mexico i did a, b, and c. He then stumbles to the finish the question because he cant remember anything else he did.
4:55- Blitzer is terrible at cutting people off. He starts by saying "ok, ok ok or thank you, thank you, thank you," for about 20 seconds than just gives in and lets the candidate finish the question. Where is the Wolf i know from the Situation Room??
5:00- Gravel claims that people are actually paying $7 a gallon for gas. Ummmmmmmm

3 minute break. Obama is signing books during the break. He is the PG of the whole debate. He is controlling the flow and everyone else is reacting to him.

They just showed bloggers who are actually in NH and they all look like uptight Poindexters. I am for certain the only blogger who is actually bringing it today.

Time for voters to question the candidates. My question: where can I get the number for this hot new moderator. She looks better than Paula Zahn.

5:17- I love how CNN is only putting on people with who have kids or husbands in Iraq. The media has created this idea that only people who have served or have kids have credibility on the Iraq issue.
5:28- First Jack Bauer type question. "You know where Osama Bin Laden is for the next 20 minutes. Do you fire a missle at him?" Kucinich sums it up by saying he is not in favor of assasinations. David Palmer might disagree with him.
5:32- First Darfur question: Biden nails it. Wolf follows up by asking some vague hyptothetical question that everybody refuses to answer. By the way he is detiorating, Blitzer's next question could be about his beard.
5:40- Richardson talks about boycotting the Chinese Olympics. Rule number 1 in a debate is don't commit to anything Jimmy Carter did
5:45- the actual question is "what is a rich person?" The answer: everyone on stage
5:46- Hot moderator quote: "I am going to reach around and give you....."
5:47- Richardson claims he created 20 million jobs in New Mexico. I am pretty sure 20 million people don't even have jobs in the real Mexico, let alone New Mexico.
5:50- As an accountant its good to see the comptroller general get mentioned. The Comptroller general is appointed for a 15 year term and oversees all accountability in the federal government. Something about the 15 year term just seems weird.
6:00- The debate ends as the candidates wives come on the stage. Kucinich has by far the hottest wife. That should be worth something.

Anyway the debate is in postgame coverage mode now so my job is done.

A real scoop

Earlier this year Chamberlain Oguichi expressed his desire to transfer from the University of Oregon. Oguichi's situation is quite interesting for two reasons:

1) PT next season- He decided to transfer despite being virtually assured of a starting spot next season. Look at who Oregon had on the bench for gods sake. The intramural champions could probably beat Oregon's scrubs. Granted the scrubs would have the size advantage, but all they would have to do is stop the baseling reverse dunk of Schaefer and the size advantage would be neutralized.

2) At the end of the season Kent had gone to a 6 man rotation and it looked as if he would pull a Gene Hackman and declare his team was on the court rather than put Oguichi in the game. Given the way Oguichi was playing (bad dribbling, passing, defense, rebounding, and shooting) it is difficult to fault his decision.

I recently have learned however that Oguichi will in fact be returning to the Oregon Basketball team and won't transfer. He is currently practicing with the team and is still enrolled in school. Oregon did not fill his scholarship during the spring recruiting period and Kent is willing to welcome him back.

It remains to be seen however whether or not Oguichi returning is a good or bad thing for the team. Last year Oregon was (0-4) in Pac ten games where he shot more than 4 times and he generally looked lost on the court at all times. However Oguichi is experienced and is probably better than who ever else Oregon could run out on the court as a 6th man. Plus he will get Oregon free publicity when ESPN announces their "bad hair team".

Anyway, it feels good to have a real scoop and be sure to check back a lot since I just installed a webhit tracker. Just keep hitting refresh.

June Football

The big news out of Eugene today is that former Oregon CB Jackie Bates has transferred to 1-AA powerhouse Hampton in order to continue his football career. It disappointed me to see Bates transfer because he was well on his way to fulfilling the expected destiny of all Oregon defensive backs. That path is as follows for Oregon DB's.

Freshman year- Suck beyond words

Sophmore year- Suck, but offer glimmer of hope with good plays against Portland State.

Junior year- Suck, at this stage the DB hasn't done shit.

Senior Year- Suck, but appear to be good due to having quarterbacks like Joe Ayoob, Carl Bonnell, and Ryan Gunderson in the conference

Notables of this pattern include Aaron Gipson, Justin Phinisee, Steve Smith, JD Nelson, Chad Cota, Alex Molden, Herman O'berry, and pretty much any DB who is coached by Nick Alliotti.

In addition to being well on his way to fulling the Oregon DB destiny, Jackie Bates also completed another rare feat that ensures greatness. This feat consists of having an arrest covered up, being suspended from the team, being academically ineligible, and failing a drug test all in one career.

In Mike Bellotti's tenure only truly great players have managed to accomplish all 4 these things during their career. These players are: Akilli Smith (as a bonus feat he also accused Air Force of having a good "white defense"), Salladin McCoullagh (also involved in a ticket for rent scandal), and Onterrio Smith who managed to accomplish each of these 4 things twice, all while being filmed by MTV for a reality show on heisman trophy candidates. (Plus he was a great recruiting host to Lynell Hamilton)

It is clear that had he remained at Oregon, Jackie Bates was destined for a career of greatness. Hopefully Oregon has someone waiting in the wings ready to work equally as hard as Jackie did in an effort to join the aforementioned players as legends.
